Jay-Z Drops lawsuit With Buzbee.

“I have made some mistakes” in recollections of that night, the woman, identified as Jane Doe in the lawsuit filed against Jay-Z and Diddy, told NBC News. The woman said she stands by her allegations.

Following the excitement of Kendrick Lamar’s highly-anticipated Roc Nation-produced Super Bowl Halftime Show, which just concluded this past Sunday, and the buzz around Beyoncé’s standout moments at the Grammy Awards on February 2, attention has now shifted to Jay-Z as he prepares to address recent allegations against him, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and an unidentified female referred to as “Celebrity B,” regarding a sexual assault incident involving a 13-year-old girl from 2000.

As suggested in a December 30 letter from Jay-Z’s longtime attorney, Alex Spiro, to Judge Analisa Torres, a formal motion to dismiss the amended complaint is expected to be filed this week by Tony Buzbee, the lawyer representing the plaintiff known as Jane Doe. However, an intriguing development has already emerged this morning. A letter dispatched earlier today by a partner at Quinn Emanuel to Judge Torres indicates a request on behalf of Shawn Carter to withdraw his Motion for Sanctions as per Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 11 without prejudice. This withdrawal comes with Buzbee’s consent, signaling a shift in the case dynamics.

This transition is quite different from January 29, when Spiro filed for monetary sanctions against Buzbee, accusing him of failing to thoroughly investigate the case and not consulting with Jane Doe before representing her. Spiro’s assertions about the need for ethical safeguards underscore a looming concern about accountability in allegations that might stem from sensationalist motives.

With Spiro’s earlier aggressive tactics seemingly softened, the landscape of this high-profile case is entering uncharted territory—perhaps foreshadowing further developments in the ongoing rivalry between the two attorneys. Carter’s attorney Alex Spiro said, “It is stunning that a lawyer would not only file such a serious complaint without proper vetting, but would make things worse by further peddling this false story in the press. We are asking the Court to dismiss this frivolous case today, and will take up the matter of additional discipline for Mr. Buzbee and all the lawyers that filed the complaint.”

An Alabama woman who accused Jay-Z and Diddy of raping her when she was 13 years old sat down with NBC News to recount what she called a “catastrophic event”: a limo ride to a white house, a drink that made her feel woozy, a sexual assault by rap stars that would ruin her life. But the woman and her lawyers also acknowledge that there were some inconsistencies in her account in response to questions from NBC New“I have made some mistakes” in recollections of that night, the woman, identified as Jane Doe in the lawsuit filed against Jay-Z and Diddy, told NBC News.

The woman said she stands by her allegations overall. The inconsistencies in her account of the incident — alleged to have happened 24 years ago — do not necessarily mean the allegations are false. Among the inconsistencies: The woman said her father picked her up after the alleged sexual assault, but he says he doesn’t recall that.

The woman also claims she spoke to a celebrity at the after-party where she said she was sexually assaulted, but that celebrity said he was not in New York at that time. And images from that evening show Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and Sean “Diddy” Combs at a different location than the one the woman described, although their whereabouts for the entire evening are unclear.

The woman, who is now 38, told NBC News she was living in Rochester, New York, in 2000 and that attending the VMAs was “on my bucket list at 13. It was like, ‘Oh, my gosh,’ one of those things I’ve got to do.” She said she snuck out a window to evade her parents. Both Combs and Carter raped her, she said. “Jay-Z comes over, holds me down. I start trying to push away. He puts his hand over my mouth, tells me to stop it, to cut the shit, and then he rapes me like he had me overpowered,” she said.

She told NBC News she never told anyone about the alleged assault or wrote it down in a diary. “Even if somebody found out, who was gonna believe me? I mean, it was to the word of two celebrities against mine,” she said.

“This incident didn’t happen,” Carter told NBC News in a statement Friday, “and yet he filed it in court and doubled down in the press,” he added, referring to one of the woman’s attorneys, Tony Buzbee. “True Justice is coming. We fight FROM victory, not FOR victory. This was over before it began. This 1-800 lawyer doesn’t realize it yet, but, soon.”

Neither Spiro’s office nor Buzbee’s team have commented on this unexpected turn. We look forward to any updates that may arise from their responses. As we keep a close watch on this situation, it seems likely that the case could head to court before Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium, coinciding with Diddy’s upcoming criminal trial set to begin on May.
